Build Own Solar Panel

UC Merced is developing concentrated solar energy techniques using nonimaging optics. Our first projects are nontracking solar collectors for high temperature (200 deg C), concentrating photovoltaic concentrators for use with high efficiency multi-junction cells and day-lighting with concentrated solar flux conveyed into buildings by liquid light pipes. The scientific background for these projects, as well as applications will be discussed.

Once the guide was downloaded and printed, we found that the construction of a solar panel is not difficult at all. The guide gave us excellent illustrations and instructions to follow. It also gave us a list of materials to buy, and the best stores to buy the materials at the lowest cost.

Before making the solar panel, we were advised to decide where we will put it so it will get the best sun exposure. The actual making of the solar panel is not difficult, yet it is a bit labor intensive and will take several hours to complete.

It is exciting (to my husband and I) that we are now able to add an additional and renewable energy resource to our home and instantly lower our electric bill.

a video of my laptop, drill charger, mobile phone charger, mp3 player charger, AA battery charger being run off my solar panel system. also my 400watt peak inverter, my 2 batteries (the small black one is a lead acid sealed 12AH 12volt battery, the big green one is a deep cycle leisure 85AH 12volt battery) connected in parralel to give me more storage capacity and then to my homemade control board that contains a cigarette lighter socket, 4 amp charge controller, voltmeter (tells me how full batteries are) and a switch to turn the voltmeter on and off when i need to check. hope your inspired
